After arriving in London for a second time, we hired a very modern but never-the-less beautiful Vauxhall and drove west to Bath, Somerset, for an overnight stay. To say Bath is an ancient city, is an understatement. It took us quite some time to find our accommodation because we couldn't actually drive to it. We could see the accommodation but we had to park in a designated carpark up the road and carry our luggage back to it. Being an old Roman establishment, Bath is circular in design and we drove around and around down into it.
Somerset is a really beautiful part of England, south of the Cotswolds, with mostly rolling hills and farmland.
All was well. The fun of navigating Bath had only just begun!
This lady with a very distinguished soprano voice, was singing in the town square. We stood in awe of her. (Note there is not a car in sight).
This building houses the old Roman baths for which Bath is named.
We were able to take some lovely parkland pictures of Bath from this bridge.
The next two pictures will give an idea of the circular nature of the city's Roman design.
I was fascinated with the quaint shops, many of which looked like this one.
It took us quite a few attempts to find the exit from Bath. It is strategically placed (probably from old Roman times) because if I had to find it again, I would repeat the process we went through the first time. Suffice to say, I was the navigator and it took longer than it should have! I might also add that one couple we know needed to stay an extra night in Bath to give them enough time and daylight to find the exit!
